THE UPMC SCHOOL OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION
As an integral member of the cardiovascular team, perfusionists utilize various cardiopulmonary bypass systems and other technologies to maintain the health of patients both during and after surgery. As health care technology has evolved at rapid pace over the years, the scope of practice of the perfusionist has evolved along with it. There is a high demand for the expertise of qualified clinical perfusionists in the healthcare industry.
The UPMC Shadyside School of Cardiovascular Perfusion offers a complete and accredited program in cooperation with Carlow University, leading to a Master of Science in Cardiovascular Perfusion degree. During training at UPMC, students work closely with Procirca perfusionists and benefit from their extensive experience.
By maintaining the highest level of patient care and didactic instruction, the school provides students with optimum learning opportunities and a broad spectrum of professional training in clinical perfusion. Graduates are eligible to sit for part one of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion’s professional examination process and are employed as qualified perfusionists at hospitals not only around the country, but around the world.
The UPMC School of Cardiovascular Perfusion placement success rate in years 2021, 2022 and 2023 is 100%.
